The Best Way to Pack Your Hospital Bag

Hubby and I finally went on our hospital tour! I am feeling so excited to the arrival of our new little man. And now I have a better Idea of what I will need to have with me when he makes his appearance. So this is what I’ve decided to pack in my Hospital Bag.

First of all, my hospital is amazing. They provide almost everything mom and baby need during their stay. So I actually don’t need to bring too much stuff. One thing the labor and delivery nurse recommended was having multiple bags instead of packing everything into one. For example, one bag for labor and delivery, one for recovery, one for Dad and a fully stocked diaper bag to leave in the car for the ride home.  I’m going to keep it simple and take advantage of everything the hospital will offer so that I don’t have to stress about it too much.

Labor Bag

for this I am just using one of my bigger purses.

  • lip balm
  • Socks
  • Phone charger
  • Treat for Nurses
  • Camera
  • Tablet or laptop
  • Wallet with ID, Insurance card and change for vending machines
Recovery bag

I am affectionately refering to this as my Big bag. I’m going to leave this one in the car until after delivery. I’ll send hubby or my sister down to the car to get it once I’m ready to take a shower.

  • Toiletries
  • Shampoo
  • conditioner
  • Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Toothbrush and paste
  • Makeup
    • Foundation
    • Mascara
    • Hair brush
  • Clothes
    • Nursing tank
    • Underwear
    • Leggings (maternity leggings)
    • Cardigan or zip hoodie
    • Slipper socks x2 pair
  • Dad’s clothes
    • Extra t-shirt
    • Pants
    • Hoodie
    • Slipper sock
  • Pajamas
  • Dad’s toiletries
    • Shampoo
    • Deodorant
    • Toothbrush and paste
    • Medications
  • Baby’s going home outfit
Diaper Bag

I am actually not bringing a diaper bag to the hospital. Since they supply everything I will need. And the ride from the hospital to home is less than five minutes, we wont need anything for the ride.

  • Diapers
  • Pacifiers
  • Extra change of clothes
  • Wipes
  • Extra blanket
  • Changing pad
  • Bags for dirty diapers (I grabbed some doggie doodie bags)
  • Hand sanitizer

Don’t Forget the Car Seat!!!

When you go in for your hospital tour ask one of the nurses what she recommends you bring. She will know what the hospital will provide, What is not allowed, and what you’ll need from home. The hospital where I’m going to deliver has a snack bar for your labor supporters so I left out snacks for dad, but were I delivering somewhere else I would definitely make sure to have something on hand.

What was in your hospital bag?
