I knew I had entered my nesting period when I insisted on cleaning our self cleaning oven by hand. The thing is, the oven was clean… but not like new clean, it has been stained by years of use, and the self cleaning feature only burns away the dirt. It doesn’t remove the stains and such. So I enlisted my sister’s help to remove the oven door so I could reach better. Inside and out. This is when I pulled out the best natural cleaning tool my secret weapon. My mom used to make English Breakfast Scones for us as kids but it has been such a long time since I have had them. But I was craving them and had to experiment a bit.
This year I wanted to come up with something different for my Halloween display. That is when Genius struck and I came up with the Halloween Popcorn Garland. Inspired by the Christmas popcorn Garland. Continue reading “Halloween Popcorn Garland”
I was so excited to go on my hospital tour and it was actually a lot of fun. Our tour group was very small just two other couples, one was a set of first time parents and the other couple had five other children. It was nice to have a mix of experiences. I am so very excited to share this project with you guys! It could have been excitement, it could have been pregnancy, either way I had been up all night, trying to decide how I was going to cover the ugly floor in the baby’s room. I considered all kinds of DIY area rug solutions and nothing was quite right. It was either too expensive, or not big enough, or didn’t go with the room. Thought about just putting carpet down, but again that was too expensive and didn’t appeal to my creativity. But while at the carpet store I asked them what they did with all their leftover carpet samples. This is when my best idea ever was born! Continue reading “DIY Area Rug For Less Than $5”
Most Sundays at our house are filled with cooking, church meetings, and hair spray. But this Sunday I decided to take my hubby up to the mountains and just spend a relaxing day.

I’ve always had a problem with invitations. On one hand I feel like paper invitations are a waste, because guests almost always throw them away after the event. Which would make online invitations the way to go right? But how tacky is it to send evites or Facebook invites for a special occasion? But paper invitations are so expensive, plus you have to pay for postage which increases the price by a fifty cents or so. Can you see my dilemma? Now that all my siblings are grown up and have families of their own, Christmas gifting has changed. Instead of giving gifts to each member of the family, we decided to exchange stockings. Each year we randomly select another family member to give to that year and fill a stocking with some of their favorite goodies. This year I’d like to try out some retro inspired stocking stuffers for my loved ones. So I have compiled a list of stocking stuffers that you may have found hanging above your fireplace in years gone past. Continue reading “19 Retro Inspired Stocking Stuffers”
Right before my freshman year in college I was looking for a very specific bag to carry all my school supplies in. I wanted a messenger bag big enough to fit all my books and my laptop with a few pockets and a place to put some pencils for easy access. Unfortunately all the bags I found were too small or too expensive. I figured it was time to put my sewing skills to good use and designed my perfect bag. T Continue reading “DIY Messenger Bag”
Growing up my mom would take my siblings and me camping at least once a year. We had a group of friends and we would head out every summer. Somehow we always had everything we needed for camping, the magic camping fairy would prepare all out clothes, gear and food and we would just pack the car and leave. It wasn’t until I was freezing cold on a mountaintop with my brand new husband that I realized just how much work that camping fairy *cough, cough* mom…. Did before each trip. Summer is tough on my two English Bulldogs, and this summer we’re all sweating it out without air conditioning. I felt so bad for my pups, I needed to find a way to keep them cool. I found a few awesome looking products, cooling vests and mats. But of course my brain is always set to DIY and I thought to myself “why pay $50 bucks for that when I could make one myself?” and that’s just what I did. This cooling mat is sooo easy my dogs could probably do it themselves. The best part is That I made it using things I already have around the house. Continue reading “DIY Doggie Cooling Mat”
It goes without saying, that we love our husbands. But life gets busy especially with kids and bills and housework. Sometimes it’s difficult to actively show love. I am a list maker. If I don’t have some sort of list in front of me, I probably won’t get anything done, or I’ll forget half of what I need. So naturally when I got pregnant I started making lists like this one. Lots of people warned me about making this list, because I won’t know how big baby is going to be. But what they don’t understand is that some people, like me, have to have lists. Otherwise I will go completely insane. Besides I can just return what I don’t want right….. I see lots of articles claiming to be what you really need for your baby when he or she comes home. But each one has things I don’t necessarily want or need to have. I talked with lots of other moms and grandmothers to see what I actually NEED to have, and turns out, it’s very simple. Continue reading “Bare Minimum Baby Needs”
