Ever since I brought my first puppy home, I have been known as the crazy dog lady. I love to spoil my pups and I think they enjoy it as well. Pair that with my love of birthdays and you have a doggie birthday party. And what do you need at a birthday party? A birthday cake, of course. For Indi’s First Birthday, hubby and I were selling fireworks (She was born on the fourth of july). So her cake was unimpressive. We didn’t get to give her a proper celebration until she was four, so we did it up right. Since then I’ve come up with the perfect pup-cake recipe that my dogs really love.
- 2C flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ¼ C vegetable oil
- ½ C peanut butter
- 1 C pumpkin puree
- 2 eggs
Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
I’ve made this cake twice so far, Once for Indi’s birthday and one for Libby’s. Each time I made different frosting.
For the frosting on Indi’s cake I whipped a tablespoon or so of peanut butter with 1 ½ C whipping cream.
For Libby’s frosting I mixed the leftover pumpkin with peanut butter until it was stiff enough to spread and garnished it with milkbones and beggin strips.
And my reputation as the crazy dog lady is secure.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to celebrate your pup?
