I see lots of articles claiming to be what you really need for your baby when he or she comes home. But each one has things I don’t necessarily want or need to have. I talked with lots of other moms and grandmothers to see what I actually NEED to have, and turns out, it’s very simple.
Baby needs something to eat, something to wear, somewhere to sleep and something to help keep him or her warm and safe. That’s it. So depending on your situation your baby’s needs could be completely different from your sister or neighbor. For example I am planning on breastfeeding and using disposable diapers and I am planning on not co-sleeping. After I had those decisions made it was easy to come up with my minimalist bare bones list of absolute needs.
- Crib or playpen (I actually ended up getting both)
- Clothes in various sizes from Newborn to 12 months
- Car Seat
- Diapers in various sizes and wipes
That is the bare minimum. Now my registry has way more than that, but these things are all I’m worried about. As long as I have collected enough of these things I will be plenty prepared for my little one to come home. Now there are a few more “modern day conveniences” to add to this list just to make life a little easier like….
- Zip or snap swaddlers
- Baby monitors
- Crib mattress protector
- Breast pump
- Changing pad and covers
- Diaper bag
- Diaper genie
- Swings or bouncers
- Nursing pillows and pillow covers
- Nursing covers
- Breast pads
This list reflects my registry pretty well, I still am trying to a bare essentials registry so that I don’t end up with a bunch of random things I’m not going to use.
What’s on your minimalist registry?
