“You Are Not Special” The Best Advice Mom Ever Gave Me

Let’s get one thing straight first. My mother is a saint. The Lord dealt her a pretty sucky hand in life and I don’t think anyone could have done a better job raising her children. Continue reading ““You Are Not Special” The Best Advice Mom Ever Gave Me”

DIY Area Rug For Less Than $5

I am so very excited to share this project with you guys! It could have been excitement, it could have been pregnancy, either way I had been up all night, trying to decide how I was going to cover the ugly floor in the baby’s room. I considered all kinds of DIY area rug solutions and nothing was quite right. It was either too expensive, or not big enough, or didn’t go with the room. Thought about just putting carpet down, but again that was too expensive and didn’t appeal to my creativity. But while at the carpet store I asked them what they did with all their leftover carpet samples. This is when my best idea ever was born! Continue reading “DIY Area Rug For Less Than $5”

31 Not-So-Scary Halloween Shows

Halloween has been a long time favorite holiday of mine, and movies are also one of my favorite things. But scary movies are NOT my thing at all. I have nightmares from watching NCIS. So for halloween I’ve come up with 21 not-so-scary  Halloween movies and shows that I can enjoy all month long! And the best part is, each of these can be found on Netflix (as of 2017, you know how Netflix likes to take away our favorite shows…). So take a look and start enjoying the spooky season! Reduce Your Medical Bills by 50%

One of the worst feelings in the world is having a loved one sick and in the hospital. Then almost as bad is getting the bills in the mail, sometimes while they’re still being treated. I know the feeling well. Opening those ominous envelopes and seeing five figure numbers in bright red ink. Then receiving another bill from the doctor, then the other doctor, then the radiologist, etc, etc, etc. Pretty soon you’re holding over 30k in bills and are completely overwhelmed. Here’s what you can do to reduce these bills. Continue reading “Reduce Your Medical Bills by 50%”

Preparing Your Dog for a New Baby

One of the biggest blessings in my life are my two adorable pups. I don’t know what I would do without them. So naturally when I found out I was pregnant I started looking for ways to get my fur babies ready for my human baby. I read a ton of blog posts, books and looked for any advice on the subject. Sunday Dutch Oven Dinner

Most Sundays at our house are filled with cooking, church meetings, and hair spray. But this Sunday I decided to take my hubby up to the mountains and just spend a relaxing day.

Quick and Affordable Baby Shower Invites

I’ve always had a problem with invitations. On one hand I feel like paper invitations are a waste, because guests almost always throw them away after the event. Which would make online invitations the way to go right? But how tacky is it to send evites or Facebook invites for a special occasion? But paper invitations are so expensive, plus you have to pay for postage which increases the price by a fifty cents or so. Can you see my dilemma? 19 Retro Inspired Stocking Stuffers

Now that all my siblings are grown up and have families of their own, Christmas gifting has changed. Instead of giving gifts to each member of the family, we decided to exchange stockings. Each year we randomly select another family member to give to that year and fill a stocking with some of their favorite goodies. This year I’d like to try out some retro inspired stocking stuffers for my loved ones. So I have compiled a list of stocking stuffers that you may have found hanging above your fireplace in years gone past. Continue reading “19 Retro Inspired Stocking Stuffers”

The Easiest Dog Cake You Will Ever Make

It happened again, the 4th of July snuck up on me, and I forgot to make a birthday cake for my oldest pup. I know I’m a terrible mother. Oh well. After complaining to my husband that I had forgotten he reminded me that I could still make her one. Which of course I hadn’t considered. But it had to be simple. We don’t have air conditioning right now and I couldn’t bear to sit in the kitchen with the oven on. So I came up with what is so far my favorite dog cake yet. Continue reading “The Easiest Dog Cake You Will Ever Make”

DIY Messenger Bag

Right before my freshman year in college I was looking for a very specific bag to carry all my school supplies in. I wanted a messenger bag big enough to fit all my books and my laptop with a few pockets and a place to put some pencils for easy access. Unfortunately all the bags I found were too small or too expensive. I figured it was time to put my sewing skills to good use and designed my perfect bag. T Continue reading “DIY Messenger Bag”

Do’s and Don’t’s Before Your First Doctor Appointment

Congratulations! You’re expecting! Now what? Well first you should get an appointment with an OBGYN to check on the little one. It may be a couple weeks until they can get you in based on how many weeks pregnant you are. I was in denial, so I didn’t take a pregnancy test until I was about eight weeks pregnant. Which was actually great for me because, I only had to wait a couple days to go to my first doctor’s appointment. But Boy-Oh-Boy were those few days excruciating. I am not a patient person and waiting a few days for an appointment was a nightmare. So like any crazy person I spent hours online trying to find out what I needed to know before  stepping foot the in doctors office. The good news is you don’t really need to do anything. The bad news is you don’t have anything to do while you wait. Continue reading “Do’s and Don’t’s Before Your First Doctor Appointment”

Camping Essentials Checklist

Growing up my mom would take my siblings and me camping at least once a year. We had a group of friends and we would head out every summer. Somehow we always had everything we needed for camping, the magic camping fairy would prepare all out clothes, gear and food and we would just pack the car and leave. It wasn’t until I was freezing cold on a mountaintop with my brand new husband that I realized just how much work that camping fairy *cough, cough* mom…. Did before each trip. DIY Doggie Cooling Mat

Summer is tough on my two English Bulldogs, and this summer we’re all sweating it out without air conditioning. I felt so bad for my pups, I needed to find a way to keep them cool. I found a few awesome looking products, cooling vests and mats. But of course my brain is always set to DIY and I thought to myself “why pay $50 bucks for that when I could make one myself?” and that’s just what I did. This cooling mat is sooo easy my dogs could probably do it themselves. The best part is That I made it using things I already have around the house. Continue reading “DIY Doggie Cooling Mat”

Birthday Cake Your Pups will Howl For

Ever since I brought my first puppy home, I have been known as the crazy dog lady. I love to spoil my pups and I think they enjoy it as well. Pair that with my love of birthdays and you have a doggie birthday party. And what do you need at a birthday party? A birthday cake, of course. For Indi’s First Birthday, hubby and I were selling fireworks (She was born on the fourth of july). So her cake was unimpressive. We didn’t get to give her a proper celebration until she was four, so we did it up right. Since then I’ve come up with the perfect pup-cake recipe that my dogs really love.  Continue reading “Birthday Cake Your Pups will Howl For”

Crate and Rotate: A Simple Solution To Dog Fights

When my oldest pup turned three we brought a new puppy into the house. How fun a new puppy! Everything was going great until the pup was almost a year old. Then out of nowhere their playful fighting turned into the real deal. For a while it was just annoying. Then our older pup started getting little cuts. But again I didn’t think it was serious, until one of her ears started swelling up. Continue reading “Crate and Rotate: A Simple Solution To Dog Fights”

41 Things To Do Before Baby

I have an unhealthy obsession with to-do lists. I will take more time coming up with things to put on my list, than I do actually accomplishing what I wrote down. So true to form I made an extensive list of things to do before our little man arrives. I wrote down what I could think of off the top of my head and then spent another half an hour searching the web for more things that I was sure I needed to do but couldn’t think of myself. Then I decided to list it here because I can’t imagine I’m the only crazy list lady that needs a little To-Do inspiration. A few things will only apply to my situation but they might remind you of something else you’ve inevitably forgotten. Continue reading “41 Things To Do Before Baby”

Baby Moon on Any Budget

I love the idea of going on a baby moon. One last trip away just the two of you without worrying about any babies left at home. However with everything we need to get ready for baby to arrive there’s not a lot of cash left for a vacation. Which means it’s time to get clever. Continue reading “Baby Moon on Any Budget”

4 Ways to Involve Dad in Pregnancy

The moment we found out we were having a baby my husband has been ecstatic, and terrified and worried, and so have I. The advantage I have, is getting all the attention. I think sometimes dads are overlooked in the whole pregnancy and childbirth process, which is silly because their lives are about to be changed just as much as the mom’s life but they don’t get the perks of having everyone fawn all over them for nine months before the baby arrives. Which got me thinking about how I can involve my husband in my pregnancy. Here’s what I came up with. Continue reading “4 Ways to Involve Dad in Pregnancy”
